Short biography - Tim Janus
Tim Janus is an experienced software developer specializing in distributed systems and the Rust programming language.
Today, he helps customers leverage the advantages of Rust. Any company that wants to offer a high-quality, secure software product should consider Rust as a technology for their backend.
In addition to customers from other sectors, he offers support to software teams in introducing Rust, particularly in grayfield projects with C/C++ code, where Rust code is to be added or replace existing code while continuing a regular release cycle.
Workshops, automation, and knowledge sharing
In workshops, he helps teams quickly get up to speed with Rust and select the components that will bring the most benefit to the customer's project from the extensive and powerful ecosystem.
Prior to this, he improved simulation and optimization processes in technical applications. This involved the use of automation and technologies such as Kubernetes and Apache Kafka. After studying computer science at TU Dortmund University, Tim Janus initially focused on research. In this context, he developed a C++ framework for optimizing the operation of chemical plants using commercial process simulators.

His career spans both academic and practical realms, marked by his passion for understanding complex systems and designing user-friendly tools. Tim is the creator of the video series "Pragmatic Rust for Engineers," which underscores his commitment to accessible engineering education.
He is also an active member of the TU Dortmund Bio/Chemical Engineering Alumni and the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI, Club of German Engineers), Tim draws inspiration from the diverse achievements within the engineering field.
Video content on chemical engineering with Tim Janus
The videos below are content from the YouTube Pragmatic Rust for Engineers" video series. This series, which was created in collaboration with Jonathan Ayala, conveys knowledge from the field of chemical engineering as well as programming skills in the Rust programming language.
The two videos below are presentations. On the left we see the talk "Let's get Interdisciplinary" at RustNation UK 2024, and on the right the talk "Operating System Primitives with Rust," based on the 8th chapter of the book "Rust Atomics and Locks" by Mara Bos. This talk was part of the book club of the C++ and Rust Dragons Online Meetup.
