How did "Janus IT and Friends" come about?
I have helped out at many events in the past. I was co-organiser of gametreff.NRW and organised a running club and a workshop on artificial intelligence at the University of Dortmund.
When I started my own business, I wanted to continue contributing in this way, and that's how the idea came about to bring the various activities together under the name "Janus IT and Friends."
Community events
Workshops or meetup-style events are the best way to meet new people or exchange ideas with like-minded individuals.
That's why I'm a co-organizer of various events, such as the Rust Dortmund Meetup, the Online Meetup Rust and C++ Dragons and the Jahrestreffen für Young Professionals in der chemischen Industrie.
Sports events
It has been scientifically proven that physical activity (or exercise) contributes to better health and increased cognitive ability. It also offers a great opportunity to socialize.
Currently, the swim club is active several times a week. Unfortunately, the run club has become dormant in 2025, but a revival is not out of the question. If you are from the region and would like to get involved in sports, please feel free to contact me.
Worth mentioning 2025
I traveled a lot again this year. Among other places, I went back to London (Experience report). I would like to highlight two further events in particular.
In May, I traveled by bike with my friend and Rust enthusiast Ben Wishovich from Utrecht via Xanten to Dortmund. Here in the surrounding area, we visited Altona Castle together, and Ben gave a talk at the Rust Dortmund Meetup on the Fullstack Framework Leptos .
In November, I was very happy that we got our bronze lifeguard certification. We will be aiming for the silver badge in 2026. The cool thing is that with silver, you can play Baywatch on tourist beaches.
Worth mentioning 2024
Rust Nation UK 2024 was the highlight of 2024 for me, where I met other Rust and C++ Dragons participants for the first time in real life and I gave a talk on the topic of Design Patterns in Rust am Beispiel chemischer Anlagen (Video) .

The sporting highlight was a visit to the Mud Masters and, in 2025, the Halterner Seelauf at freezing -5° Celsius.

Also in 2024: Visits to trade fairs such as ACHEMA (Experience report 2024) and conferences such as the Rust Nation UK (Experience report 2024).
