Short biography - Tim Janus

Tim Janus is a seasoned software engineer specializing in distributed systems, currently enhancing simulation and optimization processes in engineering applications through technologies like Kubernetes and Apache Kafka. A graduate in computer science from TU Dortmund University, Tim initially focused on research, developing a C++ framework to optimize chemical plant operations using commercial process simulators.

His career spans both academic and practical realms, marked by his passion for understanding complex systems and designing user-friendly tools. Tim is the creator of the video series "Pragmatic Rust for Engineers," which underscores his commitment to accessible engineering education.

He is also an active member of the TU Dortmund Bio/Chemical Engineering Alumni and the Verein Deutscher Ingenieure (VDI, Club of German Engineers), Tim draws inspiration from the diverse achievements within the engineering field.

Video Content with Tim Janus

The videos below are content from the YouTube Pragmatic Rust for Engineers" video series. This series, which was created in collaboration with Jonathan Ayala, conveys knowledge from the field of chemical engineering as well as programming skills in the Rust programming language.

The two videos below are presentations. On the left we see the talk "Let's get Interdisciplinary" at RustNation UK 2024, and on the right the talk "Operating System Primitives with Rust," based on the 8th chapter of the book "Rust Atomics and Locks" by Mara Bos. This talk was part of the book club of the C++ and Rust Dragons Online Meetup.

Janus IT And Friends

"Janus IT and friends" is a label that has evolved over time. It mostly involves sporting events, but for me it also includes meetings at trade fairs or conferences with like-minded people with whom I am otherwise only in contact online. Most recently, I meet with the Rust and C++ Dragons at the RustNation UK 2024 in London.

I have been organising sports meetings in my local community for years. It started with a running club at TU Dortmund University. Today, 3 to 5 people meet every Monday for a swim, like the Janus IT swimming club. As I'm taking part in a half marathon in October 2024, a running club has also recently been formed again, albeit mostly just the two of us so far. One highlight was taking part in the MudMasters in Arnsberg.
